Located in West-Central Bronx, Tremont – named by the area’s first postmaster after the nearby neighborhoods of Fairmount, Mount Hope, and Mount Eden – is a vibrant residential neighborhood with tree-lined avenues, first-rate amenities, and fantastic housing options. As the community continues to grow and attract developers, those who live here have few reasons to leave.

It’s bordered by 3rd Avenue to the east, the Grand Concourse to the west, East 181st Street to the north, and the Cross-Bronx Expressway to the south. Its main thoroughfare, East Tremont Avenue, is lined with grocery chains and other businesses. Residents have access to more shops and restaurants on the Grand Concourse.

When it comes to public transport, residents have access to the IND Concourse Line (B/D subway lines), Metro-North Rail Station, and the BxM4 express bus.

The neighborhood spans less than a square mile on hilly terrain with connecting street stairs. It more than makes up for its small size with a diverse housing stock, which includes new construction and older tenement apartment buildings interspersed with multi-family homes.

The Morris Avenue Historic District is best known for stunning row houses and tenements with exquisite brickwork, curved bow façades, wrought iron railings along the entire stretch Morris Avenue. These homes were designed by prominent architect John Hauser and built between 1906 and 1910.

Other highlights include the Tremont Library, which is housed in an exquisite 1905 Italian Renaissance-style building designed by Carrère and Hastings; Tremont Park, a recreation area spanning roughly 15 acres; and Crotona Park, which features a 3.3-acre lake in addition to a pool, tennis courts, and playgrounds.

The community is known for championing local retail while the burgeoning food scene offers authentic Mexican and Caribbean fare. With beautiful homes, green spaces, and a vibrant commercial corridor, Tremont is a place where residents can thrive and set down roots.
